Bordered by the San Francisco Bay, the City of Berkeley covers approximately 10 square miles and is home to 112,000 residents. The population is highly educated and ethnically, economically, socially and politically diverse. The Berkeley Fire Department serves the community from 7 stations and is organized across the divisions of: Administration; Fire Prevention; Fire Suppression; Training, Safety and EMS; and Special Operations (including the Office of Emergency Services). The Department is supported by 148 FTE and a FY2018-19 budget of $39 million.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader in the fire service with the proven ability to adeptly lead change. He/she will possess significant operations experience and be known as a forward-thinking role model who consistently leads by example. Equivalent to graduation from a college or university; and relevant extensive or broad management, supervisory or administrative experience in a local government or major fire services setting are required. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for college coursework on a year-for-year basis. The salary range goes up to $224,472.
