Covering 29 square miles in the southernmost part of San Mateo County encompassing the cities of Atherton, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and select unincorporated areas, the Menlo Park Fire Protection District serves an estimated population of 90,000. The District responds to approximately 9,000 emergencies each year from seven fire stations with the support of 148 FTE and an FY2020-21 operating budget of $60 million.
Reporting to a five-member elected governing board, the District’s Fire Chief will be a forward-thinking and highly strategic leader who remains actively engaged with their workforce and the different communities served. The ideal candidate will be capable of quickly building trust and rapport with various stakeholders and well-prepared to manage multiple special projects and studies that will strongly position the organization for the future. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience, which includes at least five (5) years in a command position and a bachelor’s degree, is required. Master’s degree or certification as a CFO and/or EFO is preferred.
Salary negotiable and DOQE. The base salary of the long-term current Chief is $315,000. Salary is supplemented by a generous benefits package. Closes: Sunday, June 13, 2021.
